Artist's Summarized Biography for Tim DeSoto

"Tim DeSoto’s bold color schemes and Dali-style surrealism hold

deep intrinsic value for both the artist and his audience. DeSoto finds

ordinary forms and cultivates them with his expansive imagination.  He

is inspired by the world around him to express passion for the real, the

unreal and the random."--The Arts & Culture Commission of Contra Costa County 2007

DeSoto was born in 1970 in San Francisco, CA. Moving soon after to the Monterey Bay Area, Tim began to accomplish art and by the age of 12, through simple trial and error, and was able to illustrate well detailed images from photographs like the E.T. movie poster, current rock stars, and even the Mona Lisa. Most of this was done while in class but in High School a stream of experimental techniques and style began to form.

Not satisfied with copying photos in pencil Tim then  began cloth with ink. Since no erasing is allowed it was soon found that style through necessity was a good teacher and several richly illustrated patterns and works came out from that period and at 17, made a firm decision to create art as a priority in his life.

At 18, Tim began painting on canvas with an airbrush, preferring it's easy blending possibilities. He soon achieved a seven foot tall canvas of a motorcycle racing star, giving it to him, while achieving four large airbrush paintings and doing some car club shirts and similar little art jobs. Tim later earned  a commercial art degree.

With things looking bleak, Tim decided not to pursue a career in commercial art for he felt the opportunities abroad would drain the true creativity from him, starving his progress as a passionate  explainer of the inner dwellings of the human psyche through illustration. He took a time off period to assess his decision and several years were spent in literary work more than illustration.

After a four year hiatus Tim began painting in the standard way, oil on canvas. He taught the only way he knew; by effort alone. It was a ten year class of pure exploration, discovery and dedication.

Returning to San Francisco, Tim has achieved some exposure along with a new and separate painting style, celestial single tone images, that has brought a wider range of appreciation, taking with him a few gracious patrons.

Tim has now painted over 50 pieces and is in the process of a new series, due in 2010.

Artist's Statement

Vibration meets matter. Taking on many forms of all that we on Earth can process.
I believe visual art as expressed from the raw intellect is the manifestation of the inner being most of us suffer to seek outside ourselves. Often this power is called by a name or deity and I was raised to believe such things however I now believe more in myself and individual power over anything external.

As I paint, I want to express the autonomy and interconnectedness we all are destined to behold. A subconscious explanation is my theme and it alone can guide my hand when in the creative process.
I look forward to activating the sleeper into an exciting force full of harmonious imagination and self expression to add to the whole. I am grateful for discovering this artistic gift to share and I am thankful to every human being who opens themselves to it.
